LEGEND MARKS EPIC 10TH EVENT ON AUGUST 24 WITH 3 ASIA-PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHTS
Title Defenses Pit Korea’s Bae Myung Ho Against China’s Wang Sai, And Japan’s Yusuke Kawanago Against Australia’s Rob Lisita
Hong Kong, July 27th, 2012 (Friday) – Legend marks its historic tenth event with its best card yet, with three Asia-Pacific Championships being decided on Friday, August 24, at Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo. Legend’s dominant Welterweight Champion “Wolverine” Bae Myung Ho defends his title against Wang Sai of China. Top-ranked Australian “Ruthless” Rob Lisita challenges Featherweight Champion Japan’s Yusuke Kawanago. And China’s “Tiny” Liu Wenbo clashes with “Hungry” Yang Hae Jun for the Legend Middleweight Championship.
“For our tenth event, we wanted to put together a fight card that MMA fans will never forget,” said Legend co-founder Mike Haskamp. “And two Chinese fighters competing for titles on the same card is something our biggest audience will especially love to see.”
Undefeated across five fights at Legend, Bae looks to extend his win streak with a successful title defense against outstanding Sanda and Muay Thai stylist Wang. “Bae has been a dominant force since joining the Legend welterweight ranks back at Legend 1, but Wang is very, very dangerous and might just be the guy to unseat him,” said Legend co-founder Chris Pollak.
Kawanago makes his first title defense since being crowned champion in March, taking on Australian submission specialist Rob Lisita. “Kawanago has brutal striking and solid takedown defense, while Lisita is armed with an iron chin and outstanding grappling. This fight will be all about who can better execute his game plan,” said Mike Haskamp.
Fresh off a dramatic submission victory over Australia’s Matt Cain in February, China’s Liu Wenbo has long been clamoring for a shot at the Middleweight Title. He finds himself facing Korea’s “Hungry” Yang Hae Jun, whose last Legend outing saw him take Knockout of the Night honors against Hideto Tatsumi. “Both of these guys badly want to win the title, and I expect nothing less than an all-out war,” said Chris Pollak.
Legend 10 also features the highly-anticipated light heavyweight match-up between New Zealand’s Brandon Ropati and Australia’s Chris “Igor” Lokteff. Ropati and Lokteff both hold undefeated records and look to make strong impressions in their Legend debuts.
Doors open at 6:30 PM. The undercard begins at 7 PM, and the main card starts at 9 PM. Tickets priced at HK$280, HK$480, HK$680, and HK$880 are now on sale at www.hkticketing.com.
