Well-known Hong Kong model and current Legend Ring Girl Gloria Wong will be on hand to coach the prospects. The audition will be open to all members of the public to come watch some of Hong Kong’s most beautiful women on the catwalk.
The winners will be selected by Chrissie Chau, outfitted by one of Hong Kong’s elite fashion designers, and featured in the internationally-televised Legend Fighting Championship 3 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre on Friday, September 24.
Like many elements of modern fight sports, Ring Girls have their origins in Boxing. With some Boxing matches scheduled for up to 15 rounds, at the start of each round one of the tournament staff would circle the ring holding a numbered card above their head to indicate what round number it was. Since boxing was originally considered a “man’s sport,” it was always a male staff member that filled this role. It wasn’t until the 1950’s in Las Vegas and Los Angeles that the first Ring Girls appeared.
Their initial presence was controversial, but they were pioneers for the presence of women in fight sports, and today’s female fighters owe their acceptance to these early Ring Girls. Ring Girls are now some of the most well-known people in MMA, with many fans knowing the Ring Girls just as well as they know the Fighters. In fact, many world-famous models have spent time as Ring Girls in order to raise their profiles and develop a fan following.
Tickets for Legend 3 are priced at HK$650 and HK$350, and are now available from HK Ticketing, Tom Lee outlets, and select martial arts facilities. VIP ringside seating is also available directly from Legend. For inquiries, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
